Question by scorpichic77: If you re-finance a student loan, do you still require a co-signer?
my boyfriend has a student loan from his college days that he is trying to still pay off and the co-signer on the loan is his brother. His brother is currently trying to get a home loan and wants off that loan to improve his credit. I assume in order to do that he will need to re-finance his loan but now that he is longer a student, will he still need a co-signer or can he be the only one on the loan?
Question by wrestlingguy87: Is it possible to get a private student loan without a credit history or a co-signer?
I currently have no credit history, and no available co-signer for a private student loan. I have exhausted my availability of government sponsered Stafford loans and Pell grants. I need a private loan in the amount of around 2000 dollars to supplement the remainder of my tuition that will be paid out-of-pocket through working on nights and weekends in two jobs.

Answer by goldfisheatingdandelions You can probably do it, but I bet you’ll get a really crappy rate.
Student loans without cosigner are the type of loans that do not require a cosigners. A cosigner is the person with perfect credit history who acts as a guarantee promising the lender to repay the loan if the actual borrower fails to pay the loan back. It is not easy for every student to find a cosigner to get his/her loan approved. Therefore, student loans without cosigner are the most suitable option for those students who do not have any cosigner.

Answer by kevin c Depends upon the lender, I know Sallie Mae is very serious about getting cosigners with the new student loans. However, it is not impossible. While it is best to have established credit, once while I applied for a student loan, it accepted my credit when I turned to a sophomore. I am not sure why, because they rejected it when I turned to a junior. I guess its how they are feeling. Good luck!
Question by Alicia: Is it possible to get a student loan with bad credit and no cosigner?
I am trying to get approved for a student loan with bad credit and without a cosigner. I had to drop 2 classes this semester because I couldn’t pay for them. If you know of any banks that I could get approved at or any helpful information about getting approved for student loans that would be great. Thanks.
