Question by moglie: How to get lost payment to ACS student loans resolved?
ACS student loans lost my September 2010 payment. I have sent front/back copies of the check to show that it was cashed. I’ve called and emailed repeatedly. I was told today that it could take another 30 days to “research.” I asked why it wasn’t researched already. I was told there is not a single note on my account about requesting the research. I have emails from these people telling me that the research was happening.

Everytime I call them I get an extended date for when the issue will be resolved.

Question by Minion26: Can you refinance student loans after consolidation?
I consolidated my student loans years ago (when interest rates were high). Last year I called my lender to see if I could refinance and take advantage of the lower interests rates. I was told that I could not do this because I had already consolidated my student loans and you would not refinance without consolidation. Is there any way around this?

I am back in school and currently paying cash for tuition. If I instead took out a small student loan this term, could I then consolidate that loan with my other student loan and take advange of the lower interest rates that way?

Question by Mathew: 1098-E on interest for deferred, unsubsidized student loans?
I have an unsubsidized student loan that is in deferment while I attend graduate school. Do I still get a 1098-E for the loan and can deduct student loan interest? I thought unsubsidized loans still accrue interest, but my loan company does not have a 1098 online for me.

You can only deduct student loan interest that is paid during 2009.

If in deferment, you have paid no interest and do not qualify for a student loan interest deduction

Question by James Vix: Where can I find Student Loans in Ontario besides OSAP?
I got rejected from OSAP and I wanted to know if I could get a loan some how. I can’t get anyone to co-sign on loans for me as well. Are there any options?

if you got rejected for osap it may be because that application is so damn confusing to fill out. if you included cents in any of your numbers they were counted as dollars, so it will make it look like you have 10,000 more than you actually have. it could be a minor issue like that why you were rejected and you could maybe straighten it out by calling your schools financial aid office (it takes forever to get a real person)

Amidst growing support for the Occupy Wall Street movement throughout the country, President Barack Obama has decided to fast track a proposal to ease the burden on those buried in student loan debt. According to the president’s new plan, people with direct government student loans and government-backed private loans will be able to consolidate the two into one government loan, allowing borrowers a lower government rate and a .5 percent interest rate reduction. The plan will also lower the cap on maximum repayment of loans based on discretionary income from 15 down to 10 percent and forgive remaining debt after 20 years instead of 25.
